Welcome

Welcome! This website was developed to help genealogists discover what resources are not online and what can be found in each county in the state of North Carolina.  The latest blog or vlog (video blog) posts are below (scroll down).  Please “follow” NCAncestry.com to stay up-to-date on the latest posts and videos. Also subscribe to Genealogy TV to stay up to date.  This is an ever growing project. Just like your family tree, it will never be finished, but I will continue to add resources as I discover them. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I told you a couple of months ago I had a Grandfather that fought in the Civil War his name was John Q.A. Bryan he was from Traphill NC, he was given the name the Old Red Fox, by both North and South solders. He was a Unionist, he took over a 1000 men from Wilkes Co over to the Union side, I have found a lot of head stones in Traphill with his unit on them the 10th Tennessee Calvary, he was a Capt in Company H. Their is a good write up on him in the book Bits and Pieces a book about Wilkes Co. I do know that him and another man went to the Court House in Wilkes Co and took down the Confederate Flag and put up the American Flag in it’s place, he was also buried with that American flag at his death. I know he was in the Battle of Vicksburg where he was wounded. and many other skirmishes while trying to get men over to the Union line. I read in a book I don’t know the name of it, it was about Unionist. That Lee sent a Calvary Unit after John and Lee told them if you capture him hang him.

  2. Thank you so much for this site, your YouTube channel, and all your time and effort to provide tools for beginning and “intermediate” genealogists!! I was so excited to find you-all simply because your YouTube channel popped up in the “Recommended” category within my YT subscription. What discovery that was!

    • Why thanks so much for the feedback. I’m glad you’re having fun with the videos and the website. Tell all your family history peeps! 🙂
