Mecklenburg County

Mecklenburg County was created in 1762-63 from Anson County.  This county was named for Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg, the queen to George III, King of England.  for a full history of the borders and surrounding counties, be sure to see The Formation of North Carolina Counties, 1663-1943, by David Leroy Corbitt.
