Orange County

In 1752 Orange county was created from three counties, Johnston, Bladen and Granville.  Orange county was named after William of Orange, who (according to the Formation of the North Carolina Counties, 1663-1943, by David Leroy Corbitt) “became King William III of England and saved the English people from the tyranny of James II.”  Orange county has seen many border changes in the 1700-1800’s. Researchers should be aware of the borders for the era they’re researching.
